Abstract
'Let's see, did I leave the keys in the car? I locked the car, I think. I wish the people in the row behind us would stop talking. The concert is going to start in a minute. I'm not really in the mood for Ravel's Concerto now; when are they going to get to the Debussy? Yes, looking forward for Debussy, Reflections in the Water. I wonder whether I can run into Aliff and Rahman during the interval. I can see them from here. {Applause... the pianist comes in). Looks like both conductor and pianist forgot to comb their hair- or maybe it's a new fashion.' One of the hundreds of audience of Impressionist Concert in Dewan Fil harmonik Petronas was not ready to listen yet. She might be distracted by some incident before arrive the orchestra hall. The self- conversation 1 from the situation above has been experienced by many people. Knowing it too well that this type of self-conversation keeps the people from becoming really absorbed in the music. These are called outside distractions when the minds are preoccupied and not ready for the main activity, listening to music. The intention of main activity may becoming lesser and at the end of the concert, the audience can only enjoy half of the programme .Listening to music seems as if it should be the simplest thing in the world, but it often is not. The process can be difficult for some people especially to whom who do not know what to listen to. The performed music is like a language alive as it can deliver expressions to the audience. However, it may not be enjoyable musical experience if the interaction between performers and audience is not happening. This should be reflected in the piano playing as well.
