Abstract

Since the arrival of the Shaw Brothers from the fateful journey made by Runme Shaw in 1924 that signals the birth of films and the Malaysian Cinema made through a lot of developments until to this day in the twentieth century. Now films have become a more vital part of the nation and competition among film production companies has gotten more and more challenging. In order to be a cut above the rest, filmmakers opt for quality instead of quantity for the long run ahead. But when it comes to quality, especially in high quality the budget of producing that film must also be high. Though, this myth in costing requires thorough study on its better aspects of quality and budget. This research seeks to find out if the size of the budget influences the quality output of a film. Besides that, the research will carry on to examine the main factors that actually influence the quality output of a film. Where finally the study continues to analyze two films that has won in the Malaysian Film Festival that have contrasting film production budget. The main goal of this research is to reveal whether the size of budget in producing a film have a mutual relationship with the quality output of that film. The research will conduct case studies on two films that have won the Malaysian Film Festival as films that have won in the festival won because of its output quality. From there the research is able to critically differentiate these two films' budget. The expectancy of the output of this research is to be useful for those related in this industry to better devise and plan a budget the can fully utilize and focus on giving high quality film outputs without creating wastage and unnecessary expenditures in the near future of film making.
