Abstract
This study was done to investigate whether there was significant association between the McMonnies questionnaire and Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire in identifying dry eyesyndrome (DES) among adults in UiTM Puncak Alam. About 130 participants participated in this study which aged 18 until 40 years and above. They were then further divided into three groups. The first group was the age below 20 years old, second group aged from 21 to 39 years old and the third group aged 40 years and above. All of them were UiTM Puncak Alam, Malay residents. Participants were then asked to fill up two questionnaires that were McMonnies and OSDI questionnaire. After that, the score for each of the questionnaires was calculated to determine whether they had dry eye disease or not. The presence of dry eye disease as detected by OSDI questionnaire was higher in the third group with the age of 40 years and above. There was a moderate positive correlation between symptom of soreness in McMonnies questionnaire and symptom of sore eyes in OSDI questionnaire in population of UiTM aged 18 to 40 years old above, rs = .362. In addition, the symptom of grittiness in McMonnies questionnaire and OSDI questionnaire also showed strong positive correlation in population of UiTM aged 18 to 40 years old above, rs= .546.
