Abstract

This study discusses on tourist perceptions on abandoned heritage buildings in Bandar Hilir, Malacca. This study area is a historical area because Melaka has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2008. Melaka is also a tourist location and a tourist attraction due to the historical value of one of them in the Bandar Hilir. However, there are also abandoned heritage buildings in the Bandar Hilir, Malacca. These abandoned heritage buildings can be a dangerous area to tourists and locals which can turn the area into a place of crime and trouble. This study is important to study the perception of tourists on abandoned heritage buildings in Bandar Hilir, Malacca. This study is also to raise awareness to the community of the importance of the value of a heritage building. The method used to analyze the results was a questionnaire with a random sample of 45 respondents such as tourists and locals. Based on the findings, all respondents indicated that abandoned heritage buildings in Bandar Hilir, Malacca bring negative effects such as affect safety, affecting scenery and affecting the number of tourists. Therefore, to overcome the problem, suggestions for improvement have been identified in this study. Therefore, abandoned heritage buildings can be reduced while increasing the level of security, the number of tourists and others.
