Abstract
Walkability is an important factor in liveability because it promotes active forms of transport. Liveability is a concept that has been practiced worldwide. One of the important elements is to create a walkable environment in order to achieve liveability in a city. Since walkability plays an important role in active commuting, several cities are actively promoting its integration into urban and environmental planning policies. The study begins with a review of the study area and problem statement through the environment of the pedestrian in Kuching town centre. This study aims to determine the safety of walkable environment in Kuching town centre. The objectives of this study are to identify the issues of the walkable areas in town centre. Next, to analyse the condition of existing walkable area and to analyse the suitable types of walkability area and needs to be prepared. Lastly, to identify the suitable location for the placement of walkable environment area. The survey was conducted at Kuching town area by using questionnaire form with 30 respondents. Due to the covid-19, the questionnaire form was conducted only using the google form to complete the survey. Finding from the analysis will be the basic preparation in making an appropriate recommendation that to improve the safety aspects in study area. All recommendations that have been made will helps to solve the issues and problems pertaining the topic of the study.
