Abstract

Marriage is the main institution that puts the foundations of a family. The Malay Muslim Society states that those who are late in marriage can be categorized around the age of 30 years old and above (Byrne, 2000). Therefore, the objectives of this study are to investigate the demographic profile of single female teachers, to determine the factors that influence late marriage among single female teachers and to deveJop a modeJ of factors that jnfluence Jate marriage. Thjs study attempts to jden6fy the factors of economy development, family background, career performance, education, social skill, past experience in relationship and income that influence late marriage among single female teachers at cluster secondary schools in Negeri Sembilan. The study uses and applies the stratified sampling and the data collection is based on distributing questionnaires. This study was conducted at four chosen cluster secondary schools in Negeri Sembilan where the population of single female teachers is 172 and the sample size taken for the single female teachers are 119. The findings of the study conclude that the factors that contribute and influence late marriage are economic development, family background, education and income.
