Abstract

The research study examined the mental health among final semester of degree students from Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies in Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Study was conducted on the sample size of 139 students. The objectives of the study are to describe the demographic characteristics , to identify the level of mental health, to identify the association of gender, CGPA, financial problem, area hometown and family status, to develop the discriminant functions of the predictor variables (categories of mental health) which will best discriminate between financial problem and to determine which predictor variables contributes to most of the intergroup differences. For the methods of descriptive analysis, female has the dominating number of students to be compared to male . The number of high achievers are more than low achievers while the most of the final semester of degree students are suffering from financial problems. Then, most of the students come from married family and majority of them originate from urban area. In analyzing the result for Chi-Squared Distribution, it is proved that financial problems is the only factor that is significant to the mental health. Discriminant analysis was conducted to predict whether the students are having financial problems or otherwise. Predictor variable is being classified into three such that depression, anxiety and stress. The result shows that the best discriminant are the categories of mental health which are depression, anxiety and stress between financial status. In deriving the recommendations for the study, the researcher have found an initiative towards the finding of the study to handle the independent variable in this research study professionally and precisely.
