Abstract
Municipal solid waste is one of the major environmental problems faced by the Malaysian municipalities. The growing of population causing the rate of daily solid waste generated to increase. This is also due to increase in urbanization, change in living standards and consumption patterns. These situations somehow affect the management of solid waste system that had been implemented. The purpose of this study is to obtain the composition and generation rate of municipal solid waste generated by community in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam. This study also verifies the factors that influence the amount of the generation rate. Information gathered from questionnaires is being analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Result from the analysis shows that the component of waste which is most generated is organic waste which represents 62% from the total waste generated. The generation rate of solid waste at the study area is 5.9 kg/unit house comes from bungalow houses. Size of family and income are also found to be the factor which influences the generation rate of solid waste at the particular study area.
