Abstract

In 2019 SMK Pernu, Melaka was chosen as one of the schools to implement School Leadership Boost Program (ProPeKS) which is managed by Aminuddin Baki Institute (IAB) for 3 years (2020-2022). Therefore, a study is conducted to analyse the perception of English teachers in this school about the co-relation between attendance and the pupils’ achievement of English Language subject in SPM 2020 in SMK Pernu, Melaka. The aim of this study is to figure out the relationship between attendance and achievement of English Language among form 5 pupils , cohort 2020 from their subject teachers’ perceptions. Take-Off Value (TOV) of pupils attendance in 2019 is 88.5%. While the average cumulative attendance of all pupils in 2020 is 86.2%. For form 5 pupils, the cumulative attendance for 2020 is 87.23%. In terms of English subject achievement, cumulatively from 2015 to 2019 Average Grade for the Subject (GPMP) fir trial examinations is 7.76 while for actual SPM examination, the Average Grade of The Subject (GPMP) is 7.60. The value is low. So, what are the perceptions of English teachers in this school for the Average Grade for The Subject (GPMP) of English Language subject for the year 2020? This survey study uses qualitative methods to find out teachers' perceptions of the relationship of attendance and achievement of English Language subject among the form 5 pupils; cohort 2020 who are sitting for the SPM examination in 2021 due to the Covid19 Pandemic.
