Abstract

Extreme sports are defined as activities where there is a high degree of risk to the participant who requires a certain set of skills. Paintball can be considers as extreme sport defined as a game of tag, except instead of touching an opponent with hand; mark opponents by shooting them with a paintball. As sports become more competitive, there is more participation among male and female. However, in paintball sport is still lacking in participation among female those who claim extreme sport are dominant for male. Hence, the purpose of this study is to determine the motives and challenges in paintball sport among female participants. A total of 132 female respondents were participated in this study. Questionnaires adapted from Participation Motivation Questionnaire by Dwyer (1992) and Leisure Constraint Questionnaire by Crawford and Godbey (1987) was used to determine the factors. The collected data were tested with the descriptive method to identify the most influenced factors of motivation and challenge in participate in paintball sport. The data collected have been analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21.0 program. The result shows that motivation factor that most influential female to participate in paintball was friendship. In term of challenge, the most influential factor was interpersonal (lack of companions). It is seemed that female prefer the social aspects that gained from participating in paintball sport as to other factors. Finally, encouragement is important for female in order to participate in paintball sport.
