Abstract
With the present situation of traffic flow in Kuala Lumpur, public transport, especially bus services are greatly needed by the commuters. The commuters need the bus services to travel from their home to offices and vice versa. The commuters faced some major problems while using the bus services such as frequency problem, overcrowding, poor level of service and safety problem. At present, all the buses converged to the city centre without any restrictions which resulted to serious traffic congestion. Therefore, this thesis was undertaken to study, understand and in any way try to improve the bus transportation system in metropolitan Kuala Lumpur. The first chapter of this thesis will highlight on the objectives, purpose of study, problems faced, the literature review, the hypothesis, the scope and limitation and also the methodology which will be used throughout the thesis. The second chapter will be discussing on the existing bus services in Kuala Lumpur which covers the bus companies and their area of coverage for both stage and minibus. In chapter three, the writer will mention and discuss about the merger of the bus companies and show how the concept will help improving the bus transportation system in Kuala Lumpur. The fourth chapter is about the urban transport policy which include the LRT, monorail and RBCS systems. The role of government in public transport will be mentioned in chapter five. Lastly, the researcher will recommend several suggestions to DBKL regarding the study and eventually will conclude this thesis.
