The purpose of the Industrial Training is to provide exposure for the students on practical engineering fields. Through this exposure, students will have better understanding of engineering practice in general and sense of frequent and possible problems. This training is part of the learning process. So, the exposure that uplifts the knowledge and experience of a student needs to be properly documented in the form of a report and trying to relate knowledge to the courses taken at UiTM. Through this report, the experience gain can be delivered to their peers.
In my situation, I had the opportunity to learn about the design in aspect of road engineering and geotechnical with the expertise engineers during this Industrial Training is conducted. I also get a chance to get involved in the design reviews which the engineers are discussing about their design with an experienced superior engineer. In conclusion, within 2 months of this internship, it was a useful experience. I have find out what my strengths and weaknesses are; I gained new knowledge and skills and met many new people. I achieved many of my learning goals, however for some the conditions did not permit to achieve them as I wanted.
At last this internship has given me new insights and motivation to pursue a career in civil engineering scope. To prepare myself for my future career I can improve several things. I can work on my communication skills so that I am able to present and express myself more confidently. I could perform certain tasks in design better if I have more experience in the design applied in civil engineering studies.
