Abstract
Reinterpreting the Malay house has an aspiration, to inspire new ideas, as well as to reminiscence our beautiful architectural heritage - The traditional Malay house. I have always been fascinated by the beautiful architectural vocabulary of the traditional houses. The designs are subtle, humble and yet practical. The research is about whether we can or cannot integrate the positive characters found in the traditional house into our modern house designs, and to understand how this can be achieved. The idea of selecting this topic for this research paper is to induce new ideas, and to stimulate our creativity as well as to remind us of our culture and heritage. W e should never discard the past or our architectural heritage in order to pursue the modern designs and technologies in the building industry. The past does not necessarily means of a lesser quality, unpractical, and cannot be implemented to suit the modern way of living. The case studies selected in this research paper are to assist the exploration of the creative innovation of reinterpreting the Malay house.
