Abstract
This is a final academic report required in fulfillment of academic studies in degree of building survey at faculty of architecture, planning and surveying. This report contains seven chapters, where in chapter 1 outline the introduction to the fire safety aspects of traditional and modern longhouses in Sarawak, objective of study, methodology of study and organizing of chapters. Chapter 2 is the information on historical background of traditional and modern longhouses. In this chapter, the author highlights the background of longhouse, the construction method, rituals aspect in construction and other information related to traditional and modem longhouse. Chapter 3 is a literature review on fire safety in general. This chapter elaborates more on current fire safety in Malaysia, type of fire safety equipment’s and systems, rules and regulation of fire safety at Uniform building by law and requirements by local authority in Sarawak regarding to fire safety aspect at longhouse. Chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7 are the primary data that were collected and analyzed by the author and at the end of these chapters, a conclusion will be given for the whole chapters.
