Abstract

The management of solid waste in the country is an important aspect that has to be carried out in a proper manner to ensure the environmental cleanliness and to give a better public health level. Because of that reason, the management of solid waste has to be efficient and systematically implemented. Solid waste management may be defined as that discipline associated with the control of generation, storage, collection, transfer and transport, processing and finally disposing of solid wastes. In this scope solid waste management includes all administrative, manpower and staff, transportation and equipments, service areas, customer complaint and planning. At this time, the expenditure for solid waste management increased from time to time. Because of that reason, there are a few problems arise such as not enough financial sources of local authorities to bear for infrastructure development projects and facilities to the public. There are many factors affecting the solid waste management improvement. Manpower problem is one of the factors especially in fast developing nations like Malaysia. Another problem is that the usage of old transports and equipments also contribute to the lack of solid waste management besides lack of proper planning in solid waste management field. Conscious about these problems, so the Government of Malaysia has implemented the privatization of solid waste management and hand over this management to Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd. (AFSB). However this solid waste management still in the process to be fully privatize. Via this semi privatization, the Government of Malaysia will find out whether it is effective or not to fully privatize the solid waste management to Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd. (AFSB) in the future.
