Abstract

Various approaches have been introduced and put into practice towards the enhancement of the aspects of public safety in city. town centre areas are often to be targets of crime, such as murder, robbery, burglary and theft, stolen vehicles and others. In an effort to foster a harmonious society and assure public safety to a satisfactory level, the government has introduced a program approach called the “Safe City” concept in early 2004 to be implemented
throughout the country. The main purpose for this study is to evaluate the safe city program at the Kuantan Town Centre by using CPTED principle at Kuantan Town Canter, Kuantan, Pahang, in order to achieve maximum safety for the Local People and Tourist of this study is to gauge the level and understanding and implementation. The key objective of this study is to Evaluate the existing safe city program that has been implemented in the study area and to propose suggestions and improvements to a safe city program that has been implemented using CPTED principles in the study. Based on a study that has been done in Kuantan City have been implemented the steps in the safe city program and CPTED component, but still,
have a deficiency in some aspect such as lack of security equipment and the level of security that need to improve. This study focuses on the two methods used in data collection. Among the methods used are site observation using Google Earth, and questionnaires. The site
observation method is the method used to determine the safety level of the study area in terms of design and facilities provided. The factors that have been considered in this study are the steps in the safe city program. And the questionnaire method has been used as a supporting
to the observation finding. The questionnaire survey will be cover on the perception of the visitor and local people that came to the Kuantan City. Recommendations are based on the factors that have been studied. the recommendation is done in following with the research that has been carried out which is physical and management aspects. Both of these aspects comprise CPTED development components namely natural monitoring, natural access, mechanical aspects, and controlled management as the steps involved in this safe city program are closely related to the components contained in the CPTED.
