Abstract
This study was conducted to study the traffic congestion that often occurs in Jalan Kesang-Jalan Maharani, Muar Johor. Some several issues and problems cause congestion such as narrow lanes at the Sultan Ismail Bridge, various service activities available at Jalan Maharani such as rows of shops, food stalls, bus operations at Bentayan Bus Terminal, and Astaka Supermarket, several vehicles do not park their
vehicles in the compartment that has been provided, most users do not use the Muar Bypass Second Bridge as an alternative route. From these problems, the goal of this
study is to identify proactive measures to reduce traffic congestion on Jalan Kesang- Jalan Maharani. The methodology of the study is to use questionnaires that have been prepared and distributed online or known as online surveys. A total of 104 respondents were successfully collected. The analysis found that peak hours are on weekdays all the time, the use of private vehicles is more than public transport, congestion areas are at Sultan Ismail Bridge, the main factor contributing to congestion is parking by the roadside, and the current situation. congestion is the rear vehicle following closely so that it can endanger the front vehicle. The results of the study found that car type vehicles have a large amount of volume on the road, peak hours on weekends are from 4 pm-5 pm which increases until the road 10 pm-11 pm and the cause of congested areas is due to narrow road lanes. Finally, among the proposals put forward are to provide a multi-storey car park area at the Bentayan Bus Terminal, widen the lanes at the Sultan Ismail Bridge, provide special lanes for buses on Jalan Maharani, impose legal action on traffic users who commit misconduct, suggest to the community
to use the Muar Bypass Second Bridge as an alternative route and make public transport as the main vehicle for the movement of daily activities.
