Abstract
This study seeks to provide the public information on the procedure for an inquest if there is death in police custody. This study is divided into 4 chapters. The first chapter is the introduction for this topic entitled 'Death in Police Custody:
Procedure for an Inquest'. The second chapter relates on the death in police custody in Malaysia. This chapter also encompasses the legal perspective regarding death in police custody in Malaysia especially the usage of Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code and the Emergency Ordinance 1970 (EO). The next chapter is about the procedure for an inquest and also about the problems that
the deceased person's family encounters when they wish to acquire an inquest while the last chapter is about recommendations for the problems arising in acquiring an inquest as it can be established that the procedure for an inquest for death in police custody laid down in the Criminal Procedure Code is not sufficient and it needs another Act specifically about the procedure.
