Abstract
A case study to determine the performance and cost of tractor and wheelbarrow for transporting fresh fruits bunch (FFB) from the field to the platform. The study was conducted at FGV Tembangau 6, Bera, Pahang. The primary data was collected to get the duration for transporting FFB, bunch weight and total covered area. Secondary data was used to get the total cost and the specification for both machines. Both machines were tested at same topography and same area coverage at a specific time given (2 months). The yield and area covered depend on the ability of the machine and the skill of workers conducting the machine. The harvesting round for FFB was considered as replication which is in the interval of 10 days. The result shows that the total cost per hectare for tractor is higher than wheelbarrow which is RM 132.10 and 75.60 respectively. However, the cost can be covered as the tractor gives higher profit. The area covered by tractor also more than the area covered by wheelbarrow which is 78 and 14.3 hectare respectively. Thus, the efficiency in field depends on area coverage, total profit gain and the ability for the machines to transport the FFB from the field to the platform.
