Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate trainee teachers’ general perceptions on Communicative Language Teaching, perceptions on its effectiveness as well as the trainee teachers’ preferred correctional methods should their students commit mistakes in learning writing using the Communicative Language Teaching approach. This research was conducted through a questionnaire that was distributed among the trainee teachers of the Faculty of Education Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam who have went for their teaching practicum from July 2013 until November 2013. From this research it was found out that most of the trainee teachers have positive general perceptions about the Communicative Language Teaching approach in teaching writing. Also, most of the trainee teachers believe that this approach in teaching writing is effective when used in the classroom. As for preferred correctional methods, most of the trainee teachers have different preferred methods of correction when they deal with mistakes made by students who are learning writing using Communicative Language approach in the classroom.
