Abstract

Beyond the White Coat: Lessons from Kampung Sungai Ular initiative. Designed to integrate clinical training with social responsibility, this community outreach program bridges medical education and rural healthcare delivery by deploying healthcare trainees into rural settings. Evaluation of the program highlights three primary strategic outcomes: (1) Enhancement of Public Health Literacy and Preventive Care, delivering targeted health screenings and education to underserved rural populations; (2) Development of Empathy and Community-Oriented Clinical Skills in Medical Trainees, exposing future healthcare professionals to the socio-economic determinants of health beyond hospital walls; and (3) Strengthening of Academic-Community Synergies, establishing effective frameworks for sustainable healthcare outreach in rural communities. Overall, this project demonstrates a vital educational and public health model for cultivating socially responsible medical graduates while improving community health outcomes.
