Abstract

This study evaluates the permanent deformation behaviour of asphalt mixtures using two laboratory methodologies: wheel-tracking and dynamic creep tests. Specifically, it investigates the performance of soft clay-modified asphalt mixtures at concentrations of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% by binder weight. The research focused on evaluating the asphalt mixtures for permanent deformation through the application of two testing methodologies, namely wheel-tracking and dynamic creep tests. The results demonstrated that the incorporation of soft clay particles significantly decreases rutting. Consequently, a soft clay-modified asphalt mixture exhibits superior rutting resistance compared to an unmodified mixture. Finally, soft clay showed considerable potential as a new material for asphalt mixtures in pavement construction.
