Reference desk services during covid-19 trend analysis of UiTM Cawangan Selangor library

This academic article evaluates the operational adaptation, technological migration, and trend patterns of reference desk services within Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR) UiTM Cawangan Selangor during the COVID-19 pandemic. The abrupt shift to Open and Distance Learning (ODL) necessitated a rapid transition from conventional physical reference desks to hybrid and virtual delivery frameworks to sustain academic and research support. To systematically chart these service transformations, this empirical evaluation examines reference operations across three primary analytical dimensions: (1) Virtual Reference Migration and Multi-Channel Integration, tracing the shift toward online consultation tools, live chats, and e-mail reference services; (2) Inquiry Patterns and Usage Trends, analyzing changes in user demand, resource discovery behaviors, and information-seeking queries during lockdown periods; and (3) Operational Adaptations and Staff Preparedness, assessing librarian capacity building, digital literacy instruction delivery, and remote service workflows. The trend analysis reveals that despite physical closures, digital reference engagement increased significantly, driving long-term adoption of hybrid reference models. Ultimately, this research provides an applied service matrix and operational blueprint for academic libraries seeking to refine virtual reference infrastructures, optimize digital user support, and strengthen crisis-resilient library operations
