Abstract
Copyright is a legal entitlement that gives the originator of an innovative creation the only rights to its utilisation and dissemination. It safeguards intellectual property by preventing unauthorised usage, thus ensuring that creators can profit from their creations. Copyright can encompass a broad spectrum of creative works, such as literary, artistic, musical, and architectural projects. The purpose of this is to encourage originality and ingenuity by granting authors authority over the usage of their work. Copyright also enables authors to grant licences to others for the use of their work in exchange for payment. In addition, copyright protection often extends for the duration of the creator's life and a specific period of time after their death, which varies depending on the jurisdiction. In Malaysia, copyright protection is essential because it encourages producers to create new works, which in turn fosters creativity and innovation. In the absence of copyright protection, there would be minimal incentive for individuals to dedicate their time and money to produce their unique work. Moreover, copyright protection in Malaysia also has a crucial impact on promoting economic development by guaranteeing that authors can derive financial benefits from their works, hence stimulating a flourishing creative sector in the nation. as The Copyright Act 1987, which safeguards original literary, musical, and artistic works, governs copyright laws in Malaysia. The Act also covers related rights such performers' rights and producers' rights, providing a comprehensive framework for intellectual property protection in the country. Additionally, the Copyright Act 1987 also includes provisions for the duration of copyright protection, which varies depending on the type of work. This ensures that creators have exclusive rights to their works for a specified period, allowing them to reap the benefits of their creativity. This legal protection plays a crucial role in promoting creativity and innovation by safeguarding creators' rights. By safeguarding their rights, the Act encourages artists and creators to continue producing original works without fear of infringement.
