Abstract
This study examines the influence of parental support on the motivational orientations of 379 youth footballers in Jerantut, Pahang, utilizing Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and Achievement Goal Theory (AGT). Through a quantitative cross-sectional design, researchers utilized the Parental Involvement in Sport Questionnaire (PISQ) and the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ) to analyze how behaviors such as active involvement, praise, and directive pressure correlate with task- and ego-oriented motivation. By focusing on an underrepresented rural demographic, the research aims to address high attrition rates and identify how specific parental support styles can sustain long-term engagement in youth sports. Findings provide a statistical basis for developing strategies that balance athletic participation with societal academic pressures.
