Abstract

Industrial training is a course that must be taken by last semester student to fulfill their requirement based on learning plans of Diploma in Planting Industry Management. This course takes about six credit hour and 3 month of duration of training. Theory without practical will go nowhere. So, that is why we must conduct this industrial training. As the result, we will able to grasp the concept, flow and knowledge about plantation industry and any criteria related to it. In short words, both theoretically and practically aspect should have in plantation scope of learning so we will be able to see the bright future by experience the direct situation in plantation area and feel by our self the field work. With the help of practical, all knowledge that comes from theory will develop well and improve our skill better. Moreover, our confidence level also build up by attend this course. In managing work at field, we must have high confidence level so our work can end with good result. There are many benefits we can get from practical training beside what I have mentioned. Ability to communicate well also important features that we must have. This practical training gives us opportunity to learn how to communicate with executives, staff and workers properly. By practicing good skill of communication, they will no problem to us to speak to them and ask about something. One of the reasons why I chose IOI Plantation Services for my attachment is because their well established company and one of the pioneer of palm oil sector in Malaysia. During the period of my attachment on Rungus Estate at Pamol Group from 25th of November 2013 to 28th February 2014, I learned many things from plantation ways of life, social and work style. For on field work, I was grateful to conduct my industrial relation on Rungus Estate. It is because most of the operation on palm oil is conducted there that is replanting, chemical weeding, pest & disease spray, manuring, buffalo grazing, RSPO preparation, etc. I was given the opportunity to undergo all of the operation and work as labour, Executive Staff, even the work of an Assistant Manager on making decisions. Learned many things on controlling labours, machinery, and communicate with subordinates even superiors. Applying knowledge that has been given while on the period of classes at campus to plantation life was the most important aspect on this industrial training. On the final week on this industrial training, Head of Department on my estate evaluate me on UiTM form of evaluation and IOI Plantation appraisal for their used to recruiting new generation of planter.
