Abstract

It was an honor to be an intern in Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad, a top investment bank in Malaysia. Somehow in that mix, I got placed in the trading clerk and spent six months or so learning the ropes of l-banking. The purpose of the internship was to gain training through academic and take it to real world and gain technical skills relevant to the field of study. During my internship, I assisted the bank staff in tasks and duties such as addressing client concerns, being a host for the client seminars, and answering questions about equipment and industry problems, and uploaded future seminar information and schedules on the bank’s website. These duties provided me hands-on experience working with clients, organizing events and managing digital content. One of the most enlightening parts of this internship was being able to speak with clients who came from all walks of life to help them grasp economic updates, investment strategies, and financial trends. I assisted in the facilitation of investment seminars by preparing materials, organizing attendees and backing up the speaker at the events. Through updating seminar sections on Kananga’s website, I appreciate that communication is very important, the importance of being accurate and also to uphold constant ethics and professionalism for the bank with an online presence. I developed better communication skills and improved my confidence in interacting with clients as a part of my PR internship. I also learned about investment products and services, financial literacy ideas, and how a successful investment bank works. On the whole, the internship at Kananga Investment Bank Berhad was a great exposure. It broadened my perspective on finance and was beneficial for personal/professional development. I appreciate the coaching and encouragement from the team and feel like this event has prepared me well for my future as I pursue a career in finance and investment.
