Abstract

Dr. Nadzriah Ahmad has been appointed as Malaysia's National Researcher to undertake a study for ASEAN International Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) entitled ''Thematic Study on Juvenile Justice, With Particular Emphasis on Interrogation Practices for Children in Conflict with the Law". The study focuses on the interrogation practices for children in conflict with the law. Its objectives are to provide a comprehensive regional report on the practices and conduct of interrogation by officials toward children in conflict with the law (CICL) and to share/learn good practices on the same within the jurisdiction of ASEAN Member States (AMS). The study also aims to contribute to the promotion and protection of the rights of the child as enshrined in the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Presentation to the National Children Council, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. On 14 February 2019, Dr. Nadzriah Ahmad presented to the National Children Council, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development on social issues among children and teenagers in Malaysia as well as making recommendations to the Ministry in order to afford better protection to children and teenagers in these three main settings; (a) healthcare; (b) safety and (c) education. Moderator for the National Consultation for Mid Term Review {MTR) on ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Children (ASEAN RPA-EVAC). On 18 February 2019, Dr. Nadzriah moderated the National Consultation for Mid Term Review on ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Children (MTR ASEAN RPA-EVAC) in order to identify the developments, progress as well as challenges in the legal framework, prosecution and justice system. The MTR will take note of the latest progress in ASEAN Member States across sectors towards strengthening the response to violence against children. The analysis and findings will form a Regional Report. which will then be used to prepare for the 7th UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in 2019 on the theme "Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality".
