Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) at Menara SSM, KL Sentral.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irwin Ooi Ui Joo - On 15 March 2019, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irwin Ooi Ui Joo made his way to the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) at its Headquar-ters, at Menara SSM, KL Sentral. He was invited by MyCC to assist the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). A team from OECD was in Malaysia as part of a global initiative to study the barriers to competition in the transport and logistics industry. The assistance to OECD covered the regulatory framework for transport and logistics, and focused on non-tariff barriers. The scope of the advice that he gave to the OECD covered all modes of transport and logistics, plus further feedback on the various ASEAN legal framework agreements which Malaysia has signed. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irwin had the pleasure of working with Michael Saller (Senior Competition Expert) and Sophie Flaherty (Competition Analyst) as they systematically looked at all sectors of logistics and transport, in particular, licensing and state regulation of various operational matters. Also present at the meeting was a representative of MyCC who kindly documented the meeting’s minutes, and who also kindly took the obligatory group photo at the end of the session.
