Abstract
People's lifestyle decisions are significantly influenced by their knowledge of carbon footprints and their effects on the environment. People are more likely to decide to reduce their carbon footprint when they are informed about the effects of their actions on the environment. However, the awareness and understanding of carbon footprints, especially among university’s communities are low because they had little prior knowledge regarding their carbon impact. Consequently, a questionnaire is required to evaluate a person's lifestyle and knowledge level among UiTM community. In this work a questionnaire was distributed to focus discussion group (FDG) and UiTM community. A total of 62 FDG respondents' and 110 UiTM community respondents' knowledge of carbon footprint consumption was analysed using SPSS version 29 based on the designed questionnaire. The results shown that the mean knowledge rating of FDG was 3.159, suggesting a moderate level of understanding of the impacts of the carbon footprint, with a standard deviation of 0.70698. The mean consumption rating was 3.931, indicating a high level of electricity consumption, with a relatively low standard deviation of 0.748. The community at UiTM also has a moderate level of understanding about the impacts of CF (mean= 3.160, SD=0.761) and that their lifestyle choices in terms of CF consumption, particularly electricity use (mean= 3.928, SD= 0.697), are alarming. This work provides a new perspective related to the knowledge and lifestyle of the UiTM community regarding carbon footprint practices in their daily lives.
