Abstract
From March to June 2025, the UiTM Green Centre (UGC) conducted a five-part, five-day sustainability benchmarking tour to explore and study best practices in sustainability among public higher education institutions in Malaysia. the tour began with a visit to Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), followed by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and concluded at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). the delegation—led by The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DEVELOPMENT), UGC director, sustainability coordinators, and UGC fellows—participated in knowledge exchange sessions focusing on key sustainability pillars, including: green infrastructure, energy efficiency, water and waste management, sustainable transportation, and environmental education notable practices observed included the integration of solar power systems, zero-waste campaigns, green building certifications, biodiversity preservation efforts, and active student involvement in eco-friendly programs. This benchmarking initiative provided valuable insights into institutional governance, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of sustainability frameworks such as the UI green metric world university rankings. It also emphasized the importance of data monitoring, policy commitment, and cross-functional collaboration in realizing a holistic green campus model.
