Abstract
The Inauguration Ceremony of the ‘Mangrove Forest Conservation and Sustainability Project’ and the Planting of Mangrove Saplings at the Banjar Utara Forest Reserve, Tanjung Karang, Selangor was successfully carried out with the collaboration of the Faculty of Built Environment, UiTM Shah Alam and DRB-HICOM with the support of the Selangor State Forestry Department and also the UiTM Green Centre (UGC). A total of 450 mangrove saplings of the Rhizophora mucronata species (Bakau Minyak) were planted from a total of 1000 trees. The main goal is to restore and increase the area of mangrove forests to accelerate the rate of absorption of carbon dioxide gas from the environment by trees through the photosynthesis process and increase carbon storage by trees and also in the soil, all of which use natural processes - 'carbon capture and storage through nature-based solution' (CCS-NBS). This programme does not stop at tree planting. It is a long-term investment in our environment and our people. By working hand-inhand with DRB-HICOM, we hope not only to make a positive impact on the environment, but also contribute towards better education and wider community development
