Abstract
This study presents a socio-economic profile of Mahang and Nagalilit, sub-districts in the Kulim District of Kedah, Malaysia. Residents of Mahang relies on rubber tapping and oil palm cultivation, industries significantly affected by monsoon weather. In Desa Keda Nagalilit, residents work in the nearby hi-tech industrial area, oil palm plantations, or as shop assistants. Many residents earn below the minimum wage, necessitating multiple jobs to sustain their livelihoods. This research systematically collected data on household demographics, socio-economic status, and lifestyle patterns to understand the socio-economic factors influencing residents' lives. Data was gathered through questionnaires, focusing on household information, socioeconomic conditions, and lifestyle. The analysis provided key insights into the living conditions and challenges faced by these communities, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also highlighted significant income disparities and variations in living standards among different sub-districts. Originality/value: The study's findings will help the understanding of the socio-economic status of the population, facilitating measures to alleviate poverty, enhance education, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
