Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative tools such as ChatGPT, has transformed higher education by changing how students learn and complete assessments. In accounting education, tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and automated calculators provide instant feedback, support report writing, and enhance efficiency, with studies highlighting their potential for personalised learning and task automation. However, concerns remain over bias, accuracy, over-reliance, and the erosion of critical thinking, collaboration, and ethical judgement—core competencies in accounting. As traditional written assignments become vulnerable to AI-generated content, educators must balance innovation with academic integrity to ensure learning outcomes and professional skills are genuinely achieved.
