Short course on technical evaluation of school uniform fabrics-Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf Sdn Bhd

Over the years, the Textile Science and Fashion Technology Program (TSFT) UiTM has been actively conducting periodic training in the form of short courses/workshops to the government and private sectors. On the n9th-10th September 2020, a short course on Technical Evaluation of School Uniform Fabrics for participants from Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf Sdn. Bhd. (TERAS) was successfully organised by TSFT UiTM. The course is primarily aimed at providing theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience on the technical skills of handling fabric assessment needed for staff working in the related department. Participants were mostly executives from various departments of TERAS which include the Quality and Audit Unit, Asnaf Training Sector, and Procurement Sector. During the training, participants were provided with the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct a technical evaluation on fabrics that are used to make school uniforms, as well as to gain the required knowledge to measure fabric quality and performance. The topics covered during the course were Textile Physical and Mechanical Test, and Garment Quality and Performance, while hands-on laboratory works were conducted on fabric physical test, colorfastness to washing, color coordination, drapability, fabric abrasion, and pilling properties. Discussion between instructors and participants during the 2- day course enabled the exchange of experiences and best practices among the participants, thus, a fruitful collaborating environment. The program is hoped to increase the knowledge among participants on the aspect of quality and performance of textile material which may help to continuously improve their quality of work. More future collaborations are planned between TSFT UiTM and TERAS with the objective to strengthen the current and existing partnership between university and industry in the area of academia-industry, to develop and instill entrepreneurship among community and graduates, as well as generating income to the university.
