i-Box

Penang Public Library Corporation (PPLC) is very active in advocating library promotion activities as well as receiving invitations from schools, institutions of higher learning, agencies / departments and communities. Problems occur when promotion team often experience difficulty in preparing promotion material that misplace, missing and incomplete. The worst case happen when the team reaches the promotion site and finds the promotion material incomplete or left over, the team members have to forced back to the library to get that materials. This situation not only wastes time, energy and transportation costs but also affects the effectiveness of promotions and services provided. PPLC took the initiative to create a multi-function box named i-Box. i-Box represents the 7I's intelligent, ingenious, informative, interactive, innovative, inspirational and impressive. i-Box can load tablet, game play, soft toys, reading materials including book, magazine, eBooks and library information. The exclusive part of i-Box is also equipped with digital board for games, such as chess and other games which has been programmed. This system is developed in-house using the existing Arduino kit and C & C + programming language. i-Box made of wood based palette are also equipped with safety features that can only be opened by authorized person using thumb print method. The equipment in this box is also systematically arranged and the lights will be lit if the equipment is incomplete. All equipment and space installed sensors for safety and material detection purposes. i-Box also has 'SMS Alert to Trace' equipped with GPS technology where staff will receive short messages if i-Box is left at any location including i-Box location information. Other privileges of the i-Box are equipped with a Digital Display Board that displays information about library services. This box is user-friendly because of its size, wheeled and has an adjustable handle to facilitate this box to be taken to any promotional location without the need for a large workforce.
