Abstract

Cavity or dental caries is a major health problem caused by the decaying of teeth suffered by kids as well as adults. The dental fillings often used by dentists nowadays are Amalgam (AM), Glass Ionomer Composite (GIC) and Resin Composite fillings. Eco-Tin Composite (ETC) is a product researched and developed using Patin’s fish bones as a natural main ingredient. Fish bones are really rich in Calcium Phosphate, Ca3(PO4) 2, which is the strongest compound that can substitute the existing dental fillings for future eco purposes. Moreover, as AM is extremely harmful towards metal hypersensitivity patients, GIC has a low durability, and Resin Composite fillings expose the gums to toxic substances. ETC was produced by separating Patin’s fish bones from its flesh, rinsed with clean water and grinded to form a powder. Then, the grinded fish powder will be mixed with white powder and water to produce the ETC mixture. A few tests were conducted which are Whiteness scale, Acid test, Glucose test, Durability test and Hardening test. All the test conducted shows that ETC is better compared to AM, GIC and Resin Composite fillings because ETC whitening scale is higher, more resilient towards acid and glucose, durable and faster hardening rate. These research findings revealed that ETC is suitable to replace fillings used nowadays as ETC helps to ensure safety to metal hypersensitivity patients, more user and environmentally friendly and promises an affordable price for the B40 patients.
