The awareness on practices of Complementary and Alternatives Medicine (CAM) treatment among medical doctors from medical ward in Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF), Kangar

Objectives : The study was conducted to assess the level of awareness and the level of knowledge on the practice of complementary and alternative medicine treatment among doctors in Hospital Tuanku Fauziah , Kangar.
Methods : A self­completed questionnaire was done on 38 medical doctors in HTF. The purpose of the study is to obtain data on the following information concerning complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and physicians' awareness and the barrier existing on conventional medicine and CAM. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were applied using SPSS version 22.0.
Results : The mean age for our respondent is 30.47 ranging from 25-47 years old (SD: 4.047). Most of them ages below 30 years with 16 (42.2%) respondents, 15 (39.5%) are between 30 to 34 years , 2 (5.2%) are between 35 to 40 years and only 1 ages above 40 with 2.6%. 65.8% agreed that CAM is another effective way of therapeutic healing followed by 26.3% stated that they have limited knowledge on this therapy and another 5.3% believed that CAM is not effective and a waste of time. Most respondent ( 63.2%) would refer their patients for CAM therapies if they were available in the community.
Conclusion : Most of the respondents agreed that CAM is another effective way of therapeutic healing other than the conventional treatment. The main barrier in CAM is that they lack clear randomized control trials or proof of efficacy. Medical physicians' of Hospital Tuanku Fauziah, Kangar have high awareness on the risk of CAM.
