Abstract
Issues on "halal and haram" medicines has attracted Muslims' attention lately as this matter related to their faith and the decision to receive medical treatment. Nowadays, there are many non-halal medicine available in the market and being used in daily medical practice worldwide. Unfortunately, not all medical staffs are aware of this and they might have prescribe or dispense this non-halal medicine to Muslim patients. This survey was conducted to assess the knowledge level and attitudes of Muslim medical staffs toward "halal and haram" medicine. A 21 item self - administered questionnaires were backtranslated one to one (English - Bahasa Melayu), validated and randomly distributed to 50 Muslim medical staffs in Hospital Tuanku Fauziah, Perlis. Data were collected, ,analyzed and presented in tables, bar and pie chart using Microsoft Excel 2007. The result from this study demonstrates that there is a lack of knowledge among medical staffs about halal and haram medicine issues .. The lack of knowledge may be due to the lack of exposure among them on the information of halal and drugs.
