A pilot study on the knowledge of Salbutamol Metered­ Dose Inhaler (MDI) among adult asthmatic patients at Out­-Patient Pharmacy Department, Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, Kedah

This study was conducted to know the knowledge of adult asthmatic patients' on Salbutamol Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) technique at outpatient pharmacy department. The rationale of this project is to evaluate the level of knowledge of patients on Salbutamol MDI through questionnaires. Besides, we also want to know the main factor whether undergone counseling or read the Drug information leaflet which available in the drug pack associates with the knowledge on Salbutamol MDI. We conduct a study by distributing the questionnaire to the adult patient aged 20 -65 years old. We also had done some face-to-face interview session with the patient that had difficulties in answering the questionnaire.
From 40 respondents that agree to participate in this study, there are 23 are female and 17 are male respondents. Mostly come from the sub urban area which is 55% of the study population. We have concluded that, 70% of the patient who undergoes our studies are highly knowledgeable, 30% are moderately knowledgeable and there is no patient with low in knowledge. Based on findings, we can summarize that counseling is the main factors associates with patient who have high knowledge of the Salbutamol MDI. This is because, after analysis we can suggest that 82% of the population had undergone counseling. There are 75% of the respondent are aware about the drug information leaflet.
