Abstract

Infection with dengue virus (DENV), a mosquito-borne flavivirus infection, is of major global public health relevance. Dengue fever is characterized by fever, headache, retroocular, and joint pain, rash, and, lymphadenopathy. This study was conducted to assess the effect of Carica papaya L. cv. Eksotika leaf and seed mixture extracts as potential larvicide for Aedes aegypti. The research is based on the observation of mean mortality, knockdown rate, and the behavioral changes of the larvae. The result of 95% Confidence Limits for Concentration as follows: The value of Lethal Concentration (LC50) is 668.794 ppm to kill 50% of larvae, (LC90) is 1272.193 ppm to kill 90% of larvae for 24 hours while for the 48 hours, the value of Lethal Concentration (LC50) is 500.971 ppm to kill 50% of larvae, and (LC90) is 743.810 ppm to kill 90% of larvae. For the knockdown rate, the highest percentage was at 48 hours, 100% achieved at the concentration of 900 ppm, followed by 97% at 1000 ppm for 36 hours, 83% at 1000 ppm for 24 hours and the least was 33% at 1000 ppm for 12 hours. The larval behavioral changes were observed which they start to show their reaction at 300 ppm for 24 hours and 48 hours and the larvae showed highly severe of their behavior in terms of convulsion and sluggishness when it reached the 800 ppm for 24 hours exposure and 700 ppm for 48 hours. The study provides beneficial information in combating the dengue cases.
