Curcuma xanthorrhiza ethanolic extract treatment on pre and post cisplatin resistance ovarian cancer cell lines

Curcuma xanthorrhiza or also known as Temulawak is famous for its anti-cancer properties and a number of small scale studies had been done to prove its activity. The active compound that produces its anti-cancer properties is Xanthorrhizol. Besides its anti-cancer properties, previous studies had proven that Curcuma Xanthorhiza also has other properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative effect and anti-oxidant due to a few number of active compounds besides Xanthorrhizol. The aim of this study is to investigate the activity of Curcuma Xanthorrhiza on cancer cell line PEOl and PE04 with the addition of cisplatin. The cancer cell lines PEO 1 and PE04 are cultured using specific medium which is RPMI 1640 with 10% of FBS along with specific temperature at 37°C. Next, the cells will be treated with both cisplatin and plant extract materials for determination of its ICso, IC2s, IC10 by measuring its cell proliferation. The method that is used for measuring the cell proliferation is through MTT assay and we can calculate the respective ICs. In conclusion, the compound of interest shows a significant proliferation activity at a specific concentration and do not show any inhibitory effect for both of the cancer cell lines thus the ICso could not be calculated since there is no significant inhibitory effect during the experiment.
