Abstract

As a recent graduate of the Bachelors of Accountancy program, I find myself in the middle of transitioning from gaining theoretical knowledge to applying it to a real-world scenario. I landed an internship placement in the audit field, which thankfully has taught me a lot about not only auditing but also accounting in general. Having completed my internship at a small firm has also equipped me with the readiness to handle a lot of workloads and responsibilities because most of the audit engagements for small companies are handled alone, but with a lot of help from the supervisors and managers. I started my job-seeking journey a month before completing my internship, as I already know some companies take time to review and filter applications and resumes before they decide to call for an interview. This is especially true for big companies and corporations. As my goal is to work for the big companies, I realized I lack the experience of doing interviews and have practically low communication skills, so my strategy is to apply for the small to medium companies first to practice my interview skills, which really would not affect me much if I did not get the job. For about two months, I have been going to interviews and collecting feedback from companies that rejected my application to improve not only my resume, my communication skills, and my interview skills, but also my media presence on LinkedIn. During this time, I have also rejected a few job offers for a few reasons, but mainly because I feel like they do not fit my goal and I can do better. Thankfully, with my knowledge of accounting, my experience in auditing, and countless interviews later, I landed a job at one of the biggest tech companies in the world as an accounting analyst with a salary that exceeded my expectations. Just keep your hopes and dreams high. As Norman Vincent Peale once said, “Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars.”
