Abstract

A crucial component of guaranteeing the security and well-being of hostel occupant is fire safety. The main suggestions and techniques for improving fire safety in hostel settings are outlined in this research. Preventive, detection, response, and management methods are the main areas of concentration. Furthermore, installing and maintaining fire detection and suppression equipment, such as smoke detectors, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems, is critical for early fire detection and control. Education and training for hostel inmates and staff are equally crucial. Fire drills, detailed evacuation plans, and training on the usage of fire safety equipment guarantee that people are ready to respond efficiently in an emergency. Lack of proper fire training, electricity leakage and fire protection design are the main issues of fire incidents. Due to this statement, this research mainly focuses on to suggest recommendations in improving the fire safety system in hostels universities through opinions from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia and hostel facilities management. The objective of this research is to identify the current fire safety practice in hostels and to suggest recommendations to improve the fire safety in hostels. The method used was an observation checklist and thematic analysis for the interview session. The research showed that all the respondents agreed with the recommendations that can improved fire safety systems in hostels is important. From the research, it can be concluded that not all buildings nowadays have updated their fire safety systems and still use outdated systems.
