The strategies of quantity surveyor in Malaysia on the competent of the cost estimate

The construction industry plays a crucial role in boosting Malaysia's economy due it is because the construction sector is characterized by a highly competitive business environment. Before starting construction, preparing a cost estimate is mandatory to align the project with the client's budget. Cost estimation involves determining the work and funds needed to meet the project's requirements from start to finish, serving as a design guide to ensure the project stays within the allocated budget. The accuracy of cost estimates significantly affects project success. However, One of the common issues during the cost estimation is the quality of available data. Poor quality sources data may lead the estimation inaccurate and incomplete. Apart from that, during the estimation a lot of quantity surveyors are still lack of expertise and experience. Furthermore, estimating the project cost is a critical part of the scope of job as a quantity surveyor. In Malaysia, usually a quantity surveyor is managed multiple projects at one time. This study, titled "The Strategies of Quantity Surveyors in Malaysia on the Competence of Cost Estimates," aims to investigate and explore various strategies employed by Malaysian quantity surveyors to produce competent cost estimates. The research involved a literature review to gather data on cost estimation practices in Malaysia's construction industry. The data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and ranked from highest to lowest mean. The results confirmed the existence of various effective strategies for producing competent cost estimates.
