Abstract

This article analyzes how the Pandawara Group, a group consisting of five young people focusing on waste and environmental issues, plays a key role in the cleanup movement of Labuan Beach, the dirtiest beach in Indonesia. Furthermore, the research will delve into how Pandawara Group as a movement actor utilize TikTok, which is one of the biggest social media platforms, to mobilize people in order to participate in the cleanup movement, as well as to navigate how the cleanup movement can impact the current condition of Labuan Beach. This article uses a qualitative method to provide a descriptive analysis of the issue. The findings of this research indicate that the mass mobilization led by Pandawara Group has encouraged approximately 3.700 people including the local communities, environmental activists, authorities, and local government to participate in the cleanup movement. However, the mass mobilization itself has not been successful in maintaining the cleanliness at Labuan Beach. In conclusion, waste management is a problem that requires collaboration between many stakeholders. It is necessary for the stakeholders to cooperate as a way to address waste issues, not only at Labuan Beach but also in other locations.
