Abstract

The level of public awareness towards schizophrenia have been explored. This study focuses on how much the student knowledge and awareness on schizophrenia that is actually resulting many benefits to the publics in long term. This study was done on January 2016, at UiTM Bertam Pulau Pinang which is the campus for health science and pharmacy programme. They were chosen randomly and then were gave a set of questionnaire for them to answer. The focus of this study was to relate their demographic factors which are family background, gender and study program. The data from 235 filled questionnaires were entered into SPSS software to get the result in table form and also graph form. Expectedly, most of them, about 79.6% know about schizophrenia and more than 80% of them still have negative perceptions towards schizophrenic patients and this disease they have interest to know about it better. Instead this result will be used soon on how to diminish negative perceptions about schizophrenia among healthcare-related students.
