Adverse effect of anti-diabetic drug on elderly and their adherence

As we know, most people around the world know what diabetes mellitus is. The questions are, do they know how many type it is, what the symptoms are, and how many types of drugs have been discovered to treat this disease? They do not even know what are the adverse effects might be faced by them when administrating all those medications. This study focused on what are the adverse effects have been faced by the patients who are taking anti-diabetic medications and also focuses on their compliance which sometimes are related between both of it. Our study was done at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu specifically at the Outpatient Department. This study seems to be important to investigate either there is any adverse effects when using this medication and does it relate with their compliance. Our study subject was the patients who already have diabetes mellitus at the outpatient department starting from November. They were chosen randomly and were given two sets of questionnaires to be answered. The focus of this study was to relate their demographic factors which were age, race, gender, their adherence and also the adverse effects that has been faced by them. From the 108 filled questionnaires, we went through all of it and keyed in the data into Microsoft Excel and also SPSS to get the result in table form and also graph form. As expected, most of our patients had medium adherent ( 37.93%) and faced less adverse effects. They also did not face any problems in administration the medicines.
