Abstract
The increasing number of available drugs and drug users, as well as more complex drug regimens led to more side effects and drug interactions and complicates follow up. The objective of this study was to assess drug-related problem (DRPs). The researched done at Hospital Teluk Intan, Perak. All patients who were admitted to the medical ward from August 2016 to December 2016 were included in the study. Data on sociodemographic variables, past medical history, drug history, current medications, semi-structured questionnaire of compliance were collected using the data collection forms which were filling through patient interview and card review. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 16 for windows. Descriptive statistics, cross-tabs were utilized. From this study, they were 10 type of DRPs which the four most patient had were inappropriate dose 24 (22.0%), 19(17.4%) of inappropriate drug, 15(13.8%) of unnecessary treatment and lastly 9 (8.3%) of inaprropriate frequency. Besides that, out of 111 study participants, more tha half of the patients were compliance to the medicine they were taking based on the compliance scoring which for the high adherence were 42(62.7%) of the patients. Drug-related problem are common among medical ward patients. Inappropriate dose, inappropriate drug and unnecessary treatment were the most common types of DRPs among patients of medical ward.
