Abstract
The use of antibiotic has been practiced many years ago by medical department to treat serious infection of bacteria. Although the results seems good but the resistance has become an issue nowadays due to lack of knowledge from public. They often ask doctors to prescribe an antibiotic to relieve their sickness faster or even buy themselves from outside. The level of public awareness towards antibiotic resistance have been explored. This study focused on the public knowledge regarding antibiotic resistance among visitors in Hospital Selayang which will bring more benefits to medical staffs and patient themselves. A survey was conducted during the period from December 2015 until February 2016. Our study subject was the visitors at Hospital Selayang. A total of 50 visitors participated in this study where they were chosen randomly. Based on the collected data, the compliance rate was 100% as we manage to get all 50 responses from visitors at Hospital Selayang. It shows that the visitors are interested with our survey and would like to increase their knowledge in this study. The respondents were mainly females 29 (58%), and male respondents were 21 (42%). From the results, we manage to conclude the level of public’s knowledge on antibiotic resistance. As expected, most of them are not aware about this issue and roughly they have interest to know about it better. In this survey, it is suggested that there is a need to have an open public awareness about antibiotic resistance to increase public’s knowledge which can reduce the rate of antibiotic resistance in our country. Understanding antibiotic resistance is important to improve our healthcare system as this issues is taking place in medical field.
